director-readiness-advisor is a Claude Code skill that coaches Product Managers and Directors through the PM-to-Director transition using adaptive questions and situation-specific guidance. It first diagnoses where you are across four distinct stages — preparing to make the leap (3–12 months out), actively interviewing, newly landed (first 6 months), or recalibrating when something isn't working 12+ months in — and then tailors the conversation accordingly rather than offering generic leadership advice. The skill is built on the Altitude & Horizon Framework, drawing on concepts like the Waiter vs. Restaurant Operator distinction, four transition zones, and named failure modes including Hero Syndrome and the Instant Gratification Trap. A typical session runs 10–15 minutes: one diagnostic question plus up to three follow-ups, closing with three to five enumerated, targeted recommendations. It's especially useful for PMs preparing for director interviews, newly promoted leaders still doing IC work, or Directors whose exec relationships aren't landing.
