epic-breakdown-advisor is a Claude Code skill that guides product managers through breaking down large epics into user stories using Richard Lawrence's Humanizing Work methodology. It applies 9 splitting patterns in a structured sequence — from workflow steps and CRUD operations to breaking out a spike when uncertainty blocks progress. The process starts with an INVEST pre-split validation, then walks through patterns to find the right fit, and closes by evaluating splits for what low-value work they reveal and can be cut from the backlog. Designed for backlog items too large to estimate, sequence, or deliver safely within a sprint, sessions typically run 20–30 minutes. Every resulting story maintains a vertical slice — touching multiple architectural layers while delivering observable user value — rather than a horizontal, component-only cut.
