runbook is a Claude Code skill that creates or updates a runbook for real operational scenarios — alerts that have actually fired, documented incidents, recurring scheduled tasks, or known failure modes on live services. A YAGNI preflight gates every invocation: the skill requires evidence that the scenario is grounded in reality before producing anything, explicitly rejecting speculative runbooks written "just in case." Each step must include the exact command and expected output rather than prose paragraphs, and required metadata fields — owner, last-validated date, and change history — keep staleness visible. The skill does not cover project documentation, architectural decision records, or coding standards, each of which has its own dedicated skill. It fits on-call procedures, SOPs, incident management, and scheduled maintenance workflows.
