Marmot is an open-source data catalogue: one place where a team finds the dataset it needs in seconds instead of asking around. Reach for it when a company's data is plentiful and scattered — databases, tables, streams, reports — and nobody quite remembers where things are, who owns them or whether they can be trusted. Marmot collects metadata from everywhere and offers search over it with descriptions, relationships and data lineage. A distinct feature is that the metadata is also available to AI agents, so an agent knows what data exists before working with it. It ships as a single binary with a ready interface and no heavy infrastructure — which sets it apart from enterprise catalogues that need a dedicated team. It suits teams who want order in their data but for whom a large platform is too much.
