Qwen is a family of open language and multimodal models from Alibaba (this repository is the Qwen lineup, including models that understand more than text). Reach for it when you need a free multilingual model to run on your own hardware, fine-tune, and embed without being tied to a closed API: strong models for reasoning, code, and text (and, in multimodal versions, images). Larger models need serious GPUs. Its focus is Qwen's open models and using them as a foundation for your own solutions, not a finished app or an inference engine: the value is free multilingual models for self-hosting. Newer versions of the family live in a separate Qwen3 repository; for a local chat with no code use Ollama/LM Studio, and for load, vLLM. It suits developers and researchers who need open multilingual (and multimodal) models.
