VidBee is an open-source desktop app that downloads video and audio from YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Twitch, Bilibili, and 1000+ other sites, transcribes them locally, and lets you work with the content through AI. Reach for it when you want to save a lecture or podcast and get a transcript without uploading the file anywhere, when you need to find a specific moment in a long interview by searching spoken text, when you have to summarize or translate a foreign-language video, or when you want to subscribe to a channel and pull new episodes automatically. Under the hood: a yt-dlp-powered download queue with playlist support and RSS subscriptions; local speech recognition via Whisper, SenseVoice, Parakeet, and Qwen3-ASR with speaker detection, timestamps, and full-text search; built-in AI prompts (summaries, translation, FAQ, mind maps, paraphrase) routed through OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Groq, Azure, Ollama, LM Studio, or a custom endpoint — API keys stay on your machine. Built on Electron, distributed as a desktop installer for macOS and Windows. The tool is for downloading and analyzing media, not creating or editing video. Well suited for researchers, journalists, and learners; not the right fit for server-side pipelines or real-time stream processing.
