Taskmaster — PRD-to-tasks manager for AI coding

Taskmaster is an MCP server for Claude Code that turns a product requirements document (PRD) into a task list with dependencies and tells you what to work on next. In chat you can ask it to parse a PRD, show the next task, expand a task into subtasks, help implement a task by number, or research fresh information with the research command. Tags support separate workstreams and moving tasks between them. Install with claude mcp add taskmaster-ai -- npx -y task-master-ai, or npm install -g task-master-ai and task-master init. You need at least one API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, Perplexity, xAI, OpenRouter), or Claude Code or Codex CLI without a key. By default all 36 tools load, about 21,000 tokens; reduce that with the TASK_MASTER_TOOLS variable. It also works in Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code. Use it to plan a project from scratch.
