Task Breakdown and Work Planning

productivity

Task Breakdown and Work Planning is a Claude Code skill that helps turn a spec or clear requirements into an ordered list of small, verifiable tasks. Use it when a task is too large to start, the order of implementation is unclear, work must be split between agents, or scope has to be explained to a person. The agent first works in read-only mode and writes no code: it studies the spec and project and maps a dependency graph. Tasks are sliced vertically, not by layer; each has a description, acceptance criteria, verification steps, dependencies, likely files and a size from XS to XL, where L and above must be split. Checkpoints come after every two or three tasks. The plan goes to tasks/plan.md and the task list to tasks/todo.md or a tracker such as GitHub Issues, Jira or Linear. A plan template and parallelization hints are included.
