Automatic Circuit Breaker for n8n Agents is an n8n automation template that implements the circuit-breaker pattern to protect AI agents and automations from uncontrolled execution. Reach for it when an agent starts looping and hammering an external API endlessly, when LLM call costs exceed budget, when you need to hard-stop a pipeline without manual intervention, or when an agent is stuck in an iteration with no exit. The pack contains five standalone JSON workflows: error-rate-breaker (trips the circuit when error rate exceeds a threshold), example-protected-agent (a sample agent with a built-in breaker), iteration-budget (caps the number of iterations; 10 nodes, executeWorkflowTrigger, Postgres via executeQuery, stopAndError node), kill-switch (emergency stop), and spend-cap (cost ceiling). Circuit state is persisted in Postgres. Each workflow is imported independently into any n8n agent pipeline. Requires a reachable Postgres instance and familiarity with n8n environment variables. Direction is protection and reliability, not monitoring or observability — full tracing and alerting require separate tooling. Fits teams running agents against external APIs and LLMs; does not cover distributed tracing or metrics dashboards.
