Architectural Decision Risk Analysis

research

decision-analysis is a Claude Code skill that stress-tests consequential design options using premortem and backcast reasoning, then returns a risk-calibrated recommendation of Go, No-Go, or Conditional Go. For each viable option it surfaces concrete failure paths with early signals, success prerequisites, and the evidence that would trigger a pivot — keeping proven facts separate from assumptions. The skill is a reference component used by the `discuss` and `adr-writer` workflows; it performs analysis only and never creates artifacts, mutates lifecycle state, or touches version control. Outputs are routed to their authoritative destinations: durable rationale goes to ADRs, normative rules to RFCs, and delivery scope to Work Items. It is most valuable when a choice is expensive to reverse, consequences cross system or governance boundaries, or a hidden assumption could introduce architectural, security, or operational risk.
