Presentation AI is an open-source, self-hosted AI presentation generator and alternative to Gamma.app. Reach for it when you need to turn a topic into a slide deck without manual layout work, when you want to keep your data off third-party cloud services, or when you need fully custom themes rather than locked-down templates. The core workflow is outline-first: AI drafts a structure you can review and edit before it builds the final slides. Features include 38 built-in themes, PPTX theme import, custom theme creation, AI image generation, charts, infographics, media embeds, presentation recording with webcam and mic, .pptx export, and public sharing links. Text generation runs on OpenAI API, Together AI, Ollama, or LM Studio; image generation via Together AI or FAL; web search via Tavily. The stack is Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, PostgreSQL with Prisma ORM, NextAuth.js, and Plate Editor. Deployment requires Node.js 18+, pnpm, and a PostgreSQL instance. The tool generates presentations from a description — it does not convert or reformat existing PPTX files. Suitable for teams that need infrastructure control; not ideal if setting up PostgreSQL and environment variables is not feasible.
