Edit-Banana — convert diagram images to editable DrawIO
★ 5.5K
Edit-Banana is an open-source Python tool that converts static images and diagrams into fully editable DrawIO (XML) files, preserving original structure, logical relationships, and visual details. Reach for it when you need to rework an architecture diagram from a paper, when a flowchart arrived as an image and must be updated or reformatted, or when a technical schematic or formula needs edits but no source file exists. Under the hood it uses SAM 3 and a multimodal large language model, reconstructing diagrams element by element rather than applying rigid rules. Requires Python 3.10+; a CUDA-capable GPU is recommended. Runs locally from the repository; an online demo is available at editbanana.net, though the web service is ahead of the GitHub release in features. Licensed under Apache 2.0. The direction is converting static visuals into editable DrawIO vector format — not raw text extraction (use dedicated OCR tools for that). Best suited for teams working with technical and scientific diagrams; reconstruction quality depends on source image clarity, so restored data should be verified against the original before publication.
