Obtainium is an open-source Android tool that installs and updates apps directly from their release pages, bypassing app stores entirely. Reach for it when the apps you need aren't on Google Play, when you want updates straight from the developer without waiting for a store's review cycle, or when you need to track new versions of dozens of FOSS apps in one place. Obtainium monitors a specified source, sends a notification when a new release appears, and installs the APK. Written in Dart, it supports GitHub, GitLab, Forgejo/Codeberg, F-Droid and third-party F-Droid repos, IzzyOnDroid, SourceHut, APKPure, Aptoide, Uptodown, itch.io, Huawei AppGallery, RuStore, Samsung Galaxy Store, SourceForge, direct APK links, and any HTML page containing APK links. Crowdsourced app configurations are available at apps.obtainium.imranr.dev. The direction is pulling updates from the original source, not from an aggregator — unlike F-Droid, Obtainium maintains no catalog of its own; you add the sources you trust. Verifying that a release is safe remains the user's responsibility: Obtainium delivers the file from the specified source but does not audit the app's code. Works on Android only; scraping-based sources may break when websites redesign their pages.
