Open Notebook is an open-source private replacement for Google NotebookLM: you upload your sources and the tool helps you work with them — answering questions about them, making summaries, finding connections. Reach for it when a service like NotebookLM is convenient but the material cannot go to someone else's cloud: here everything runs on your side through Docker and any model can be connected, local ones included — over 18 providers are supported. The practical point: work through a stack of studies before a project, prepare for an exam from notes, or distil a dozen reports without reading each in full. The difference from general assistants is that answers are built strictly from your sources with citations to them. The result still needs checking: the model can misinterpret.
