difit — local visual git diff viewer

★ 3.2K

difit is an open-source CLI tool that spins up a local web server and renders git diffs in a GitHub-style "Files changed" view — entirely on your machine, without uploading code anywhere. Reach for it when a terminal diff feels too raw before you push; when an AI agent made changes and you need a clean full-file view to audit them; when you want to jot down review comments and hand them straight to an agent as a prompt — comments are copied with one click; or when your code policy forbids sending source to external review services. Written in TypeScript, it installs via npm (`npm install -g difit` or `npx difit`) and works on top of any git repository with no extra setup. It handles single-commit views, branch comparisons, staged/unstaged diffs, piped unified diffs via stdin, and GitHub PR review through the GitHub CLI (`--pr` flag). Claude Code Skills integration (`npx skills add yoshiko-pg/difit`) lets an agent open difit and surface review findings inside its own interface. The tool is for viewing and annotating local changes, not for collaborative review with threaded discussions and access control — use a full code-review platform for that. Works for any developer with git and Node.js; not a replacement for a multi-person review workflow.
