CartCut is an open-source desktop video editor for macOS that an AI agent can drive. The app is written in TypeScript and Electron and uses FFmpeg. Through an MCP bridge it exposes the live timeline to the agent, so edits appear in the preview immediately. Editing is layer-based rather than track-based, which makes it easier to apply several effects to one asset. It offers cutting, animation, sound mixing, text layers, project management, extensions through an API, and separate apps for automatic captions and overlay recording. A plugin with the skill cartcut-editing is provided for Claude: transcript-driven cuts, subtitles, trimming and rearranging clips, animated titles. Time is expressed in milliseconds throughout. For the agent to work, the app must be open with the MCP bridge connected. MIT license.
