Cronicle — multi-server task scheduler with a web UI

★ 5.8K

Cronicle is an open-source multi-server task scheduler and runner with a web UI, written in Node.js; in essence a fancier replacement for cron. Reach for it when cron jobs are scattered across machines with no central view, when you want to watch script output live, when jobs should fail over to a backup server if the primary dies, or when triggering scripts from a browser beats SSH. It handles scheduled, repeating and on-demand jobs, multiple time zones, queuing of long-running events, server groups with auto-discovery of nearby servers, automatic failover to backup servers, a live log viewer, CPU and memory tracking per job and historical performance graphs. A job can be a simple shell command or a plugin in any language that talks to Cronicle through JSON. Web hooks send notifications to external systems, and a REST API with API keys lets remote apps schedule and run events. The author has announced a successor, xyOps; Cronicle stays supported, mainly with bug and security fixes. It fits teams that want to replace scattered cron entries with one control point across several servers. Container orchestration and complex job dependency graphs are not claimed in the README.
